Although the labels garage and indie rock, come to mind upon first listen of the guitar slinging power trio Geoff Dolce, the underlying work is distinctly rooted in the folk tradition. This juxtaposition of heavy guitar and folk song is an odd yet comfortable pairing. Proudly wearing influences on his sleeve, Dolce's guitar solos sound like mutant experiment using the ears and fingers of Slash and Dinosaur Jr. The guitar shines on complimented by tribal tom toms and melodic bass lines from Andrew Grill and Jon Hill. Dolce's lyrics explore the disillusionment of youth, wanderlust, and self deprecation in a tone that recalls Neutral Milk Hotel. Impeccably well rehearsed this recording reflects an impressive live performance that strikes quick with a knockout punch of decibels.
